Turken AKA Naked Neck
The Naked Neck is a breed of chicken that is naturally devoid of feathers on its neck and vent. The breed is also called the Transylvanian Naked Neck, as well as the Turken. Many believe that they are a cross between a chicken and the domesticated turkey, but this is not the case. The Naked neck was a characteristic bred into the chicken to make it easier to pluck for meat and to tolerate the heat better. The Turken chicken is noted for its size and laying ability and come in different colors.
Many colors have been accepted into the APA standards. Right Now The Standard of Perfection recognizes Buff, Red, and White.
I'm hoping to add the Blue Black and splash in the standards as well.
I've been working on the BBS for many years. I'm now getting clean colored birds. Mine are a little on the larger size so they'll make great sized meat birds. They are great winter layers also .
