Black Breasted Red Phoenix
The Phoenix is a German breed of long-tailed chicken. It derives from cross-breeding of imported long-tailed Japanese birds similar to the Onagadori with other breeds.
The Phoenix chicken is an alert breed with a pheasant-like appearance. They are fair layers and do go broody. The chicks are hardy, but require extra protein when their tails are growing.
The silver variety of the Phoenix breed was accepted into the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection in 1965, and the gold in 1983. Black-breasted red was recognized in 2018.
Phoenix chickens are birds that molt each year or every-other-year and tend to have wide, rigid sickle feathers of two to five feet in length and saddle feather of 12 to 18 inches.
Bought my stock from Aubery Webb (Boggy Bottom Bantams) When he sold out.
